I would like to start this entry by saying that THIS DOES NOT INVOLVE ME OR MIKA IN ANY WAY. Some of you people like to jump to conclusions.

Now. I found out today that there will be a new baby in my family. Extended family, but not TOO extended. I am being deliberately vague here because this is not my news to share, and most of you won't care who I'm talking about anyway. I received the news by email and responded in kind, mentioning that a lot of my friends are having babies. Then I thought about it, and realized that "a lot" might be an understatement. Eventually, I had to break out the pen and paper and make a list.

Even bearing in mind that:

• these people range from family members to close friends to distant acquaintances
• I have been active on the internet for over 13 years, and one tends to make a lot of friends in that time
• I work for a corporation with about 4,000 employees
• I used to work at a computer school and a pizza joint; in both places, I dealt with a lot of people who were entering their prime babymaking years

...it's still nuts. I counted everyone I knew who is currently pregnant or had given birth or adopted within the past year,  and I counted 17 babies. SEVEN-FUCKING-TEEN BABIES. And that's only counting Jake's twins as one!

The breakdown:

• Current work babies: 3
• Former work babies: 3
• Wrestling chat babies: 4
  
• Other internet friend babies: 1
• Real-life friend babies: 3
  
• Family member babies: 1
• Babies belonging to people that Mika knows but who I only kinda know: 2

Bear in mind, I put about two minutes' thought into this list, so it's entirely possible that I'm forgetting some babies. Maybe a lot of babies.

And think about this. The group that's most actively reproducing? THE PEOPLE WHO POST ON THE PRO WRESTLING FORUM. I tremble for the future.

Actually, I also broke down the list of new babies according to who should and shouldn't reproduce. I'm a dick, but the results were surprisingly reassuring.

In other news, I now have all the songs suggested in response to this post (apart from Aaron's songs - I will make your mixes, dude, but if you want on my LiveJournal CD, you gotta pick ONE song). I know there are more of you out there. Cathy, Chris, Maureen, Gene, Steve, Steve, Steve, Sandy, Audra, CT, CA, Meredith, Meredith, Ian, Ted, Feely, Kristin, anybody else - I eagerly await your input. At the very least, I want just enough songs so that one doesn't make the cut. You know which one.
